Days after September 11, 2001, Marie Forkin departed for the war in Afghanistan as a crew member of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. Left behind with her husband Joey were their three young children, a girl and two boys, one of them a 5-month-old baby.

- Roger M. Richards is a documentary producer, cinematographer and editor with The Drew Carey Project at Reason.tv. He is also Editor and Publisher of The Digital Filmmaker and the former Multimedia Editor/Producer at The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia. His photojournalism included covering the US invasion of Panama, political upheaval in Haiti, civil war in Croatia and the siege of Sarajevo. He is a former Associated Press photo bureau chief in Bogotá, Colombia, and a staff photographer at the Washington Times in Washington, DC, from 1997-2000. He became a digital filmmaker in 1998, focusing on projects about war in the Balkans. He was awarded the first White House News Photographers' Association sabbatical grant for videojournalism in 2000. Richards is one of the first graduates (1999) of the famous Platypus Workshop that trains photojournalists how to become digital filmmakers and videojournalists. He became a member of the workshop faculty in 2002.
